Ian specialises in pre-charge representation and crisis management, with particular focus on defending clients accused of sexual misdemeanours. This includes indecent images of children as well as allegations of rape and sexual assault.
He is also experienced at representing professionals facing disciplinary hearings by their professional regulators, and accepts instructions from the earliest stage of intervention to give his clients the best opportunity of success.
The Penman Sedgwick military defence team has also been bolstered by Ian’s noteworthy background in military law. He has formerly held a position as Chair of the Forces Law Legal Network as well as a committee member of the Association of Military Court Advocates.
Ian has successfully defended military personnel at RMP investigations and at the Court Martial across the UK and abroad. He is a member of the Solicitors Association of Higher Court Advocates (SAHCA); Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL); is a former Chair of Forces Law and committee member of the Association of Military Court Advocates (AMCA).
Many of Ian’s clients have been successfully diverted away from the criminal justice system and have gone on to successfully continue careers in their respective professions.
